Interview
All semi-finalists must complete an interview, which is conducted in English and Spanish. The interview is only one component in a comprehensive selection process.
Interviews typically last between 30-45 minutes and will be conducted in person or virtually.
The interviewers may ask questions about the candidate’s interests and goals related to language study and field study, as well as hypothetical scenarios that might arise during the exchange experience.
Candidates should dress professionally, for example, in a collared shirt or blouse. We recommend avoiding torn or ‘distressed’-style clothing, and tank tops.
Final Reveiw
Evaluators assess applicants’ level of commitment to research, language study, and intercultural understanding, motivation for language learning and research study, demonstrated cultural awareness, and ability to live and adapt to an overseas immersion environment. Evaluators do not receive or review candidates’ placement information, medical forms, or optional statistical information. The parent statement is included in the materials that evaluators review but is not scored.
